Egypt, Education, 3/20/1998
The US Agency for International Development directed an invitation to Susan Mubarak, president Mubarak's wife, to attend the "Internationals Girls Education Conference" that will be held in Whashington D.C.
The conference, cosponsored by the World Bank, the US Development Bank, the European Union, and the Louis T. Preston Educational Program for Girls will bring some 1,000 girls from twenty five countries to participate along with well-known public and private individuals who have had active role and concern about the welfare of women and girls in the past.
The conference aims to strengthen the public-private role in such efforts. The conference will be held May 6 - 8, and it is expected that US First Lady Hillary Clinton will be in attendance and will give the keynote address.
Mrs. Mubarak has many involvements in charity organizations such as Al Nor Wal Amal (light and hope) society for blind girls, and the Egyptian Museum of Natural Life that aims to preserve complete groups of plants and animals.
The head of the training and education bureau in the Egyptian branch of the USAID said that directing the invitation to Susan Mubarak reflects the world's and the United States' respect for her efforts and the projects that she adopts and supports that are aimed at educating women, considering them a main element of development as they represent half of the population.
