Qatar to Israel: enough is enough, may close mission in Doha
Qatar-Israel, Politics, 3/19/1998
Qatar announced that it will honor the call put forth by the Organization of the Islamic Conference to reconsider relations with Israel, adding that any Arab and Islamic decision should be honored.
In a press conference, Qatar's Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasem al-Thani said at the conclusion of the OIC ministerial conference in Doha that Qatar is part of the Arab nation and any decision taken on the Arab and Islamic level should be respected.
He stated that Qatar might close off the Israeli mission office in Doha because of the stalemate in the ME peace process.
He added: "There is a limit for cooperation between us and Israel," noting that Israel has surpassed these limits by ignoring the rights of the Palestinians and the Arab nation. "Thereby, it is not surprising to reconsider our relations with Israel, which are only in the commercial field."
The Qatari minister stressed that for a year his country had halted discussions with the Israeli government because Israel did not commit itself to its obligations.
