Mubarak to receive Annan tomorrow
Regional-Egypt, Politics, 3/18/1998

President Hosni Mubarak will receive UN Secretary General Kofi Annan tomorrow, to discuss many issues, including the Middle East peace process and the inspection agreement Annan recently negotiated between Iraq and the United Nations.

They will also discuss Egypt's role in the Arab region, recent developments in Egyptian - Sudanese relations, the situation in Somalia, and Egyptian membership in Security Council -- as Egypt is one of the countries nominated for permanent membership.

Annan will also meet with Arab League Secretary-General Esmat Abdul Meguid. The AL assistant for political and international affairs, Muhammad Zakaria, said Annan and Meguid will discuss the Middle East peace process, the accord between Iraq and the UN, Lockerbie, and cooperation opportunities between the Arab League and the United Nations.

Annan's two-day visit to Egypt kicks off his tour of the region, which includes stops in Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Israel and the Palestine.
