A snowstorm hits the Middle East
Regional-Jordan, Environment, 3/18/1998
Following a three-day sandstorm that hit the Middle East early this week, a snowstorm started yesterday night.
A 30 cm thick snow covers streets roads and has turned the area white. Amman, Jordan's capital, is at a standstill.
Acting Jordanian Prime Minister Dr. Abdullah al-Nusour issued a statement by which he ordered all governmental offices, schools and universities to be closed today.
This snowstorm followed a sandstorm churned up in the North African desert. That storm blanketed the Middle East in a haze of dust.
