Doha OIC conference holds Israel responsible for peace stalemate
Regional, Politics, 3/17/1998

A draft of the final statement of the OIC member states ministerial meeting strongly condemned the Israeli occupation of the Golan Heights and south Lebanon.

The draft statement said that the questions of Jerusalem and Palestine are at the top of the list of Islamic priorities. It voiced full solidarity with the PLO in its struggle to eliminate the Israeli occupation and to restore the rights and lands of the Palestinian people.

The draft statement held Israel responsible for the deadlock in the peace process, stating that Israel's violation of the principles on the grounds of which the peace process was built is a hard blow for the peace process. It urged the OIC member states to commit to procedures of Islamic boycott of Israel. It urged countries that have already started relations with Israel to reconsider these relations through closing Israel's offices to force Israel to abide by agreements and obligations it has reached.

The draft welcomed the accord concluded by Iraq and the UN last February and demanded Iraq to fully abide by UN resolutions concerned and cooperate with the UN inspection team.

The draft statement condemned the oppressive practices in Kosovo and called for unconditional consultations between the Albanian people in Kosovo and Belgrade's government.
