Tel Aviv invites Gehan El-Sadat to attend inauguration of El-Sadat Square
Israel-Egypt, Politics, 3/16/1998
Tel Aviv invited Anwar El-Sadat's family -- including his widow, Gehan El-Sadat -- to attend a special celebration to change the name of the "Clock Square," found at the western entrance to Yafa, to "Aswar El-Sadat Square."
Tel Aviv also decided to change the name of "El-Yaft" street to "El-Sadat street."
The Israeli magazine Heshat explained that the reason for choosing Sadat 's name is because he was the first Arab leader to approve a peace agreement with Israel and because he was killed at the hands of extremists during a military parade in the anniversary of the October war on October 6, 1981.
