Iraq ready to discuss issue of missing Kuwaitis
Iraq-Kuwait, Politics, 3/16/1998
Nabil Negm, Iraq's permanent deputy in the Arab League, announced Iraq's readiness to allow the Egyptian People's Assembly to host Iraqi - Kuwaiti parliamentary delegations in a meeting aimed at reconciling the two countries' views concerning Kuwaitis still missing after the Gulf War.
Negm expressed Iraq's welcome for any initiative that can resolve this issue. He said Iraq is looking positively at all initiatives suggested in this regard such as those made by the envoys of the Arab League that visited Iraq, by Morocco's King Hassan II, and by Qatar.
Qatar had suggested that a Gulf states delegation visits Iraq to find a solution to this problem. Negm stated that Iraq sees no reason for not including Kuwaiti parliamentarians in this delegation.
Recent comments made by Deputy Prime Minister of Iraq, Tariq Aziz, said that Iraq sent high level communiques expressing willingness to resolve the outstanding problems with Kuwait, that were the result of Iraq's invasion of the small country. Kuwait, has demanded that Iraq must account for the missing Kuwaitis and that a public apology is issued for the invasion before reconciliation can begin.
