Egypt, Sudan move closer
Egypt-Sudan, Politics, 3/16/1998

Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa stated that the Sudanese President Omar Bashir's resolution to restore Egyptian possessions in Sudan is an important step toward removing all current tensions between the two states.

Bashir issued a decree on Sunday in which he called for specialized Sudanese parties at the ministries of irrigation and higher education to promptly make necessary arrangements to reconsider Egyptian institutions confiscated in Sudan since 1992. Political sources in Khartoum said Bashir's decree is an advance sign of developing Egyptian-Sudanese relations.

Answering a question concerning the possibility of improvements in Sudanese - Egyptian relations after this resolution, Bashir said Sudan hopes that Egyptian - Sudanese relations will be positively influenced by historic relations between the two countries and the desire for continued, stable cooperation between the Egyptian and Sudanese people.
