US Undersecretary of State for the Middle East and North Africa Martin Indyk on Friday said the US will continue consultations on means of giving the ME peace process a push forward on the Syrian and Lebanese tracks.
In a statement to Monte Carlo radio broadcast on Friday, Indyk said the US believes that the best way to reach genuine peace in the region is through comprehensive negotiations, including the resumption of negotiations on the Syrian and Lebanese tracks. Indyk admitted that Washington is facing a difficult position concerning negotiations on the Palestinian - Israeli track, adding that this has a negative impact on the US efforts to revive negotiations on other tracks.
In a press conference he held today in conclusion of his visit to Tunisia, Indyk said that US Secretary of State Madeline Albright will follow up on the new ideas the US President Bill Clinton recently expressed to Yasser Arafat and Netanyahu.
