Delegation of New York Churches in Egypt
Egypt, International, 3/14/1998

Yesterday Egyptian President Hosni Mubrak met with a delegation from the New York Council of Chuches under the leadership of Kalfa Botes.

After the meeting, Kalfa said he found for himself during his visit to Egypt that there are no disputes between Moslems and Christians there. He also refuted claims by some European information bodies about such disputes.

Kalfa also met with Dr. Mohammed Said Tantawi, the Sheikh of Al-Azhar; Dr. Mamdi Zakzouk, the Egyptian minister of religious endowments; Coptic Pope Shenouda of Alexedria; and other religious leaders in the country.

Kalfa said that terrorist activities in Egypt are not launched by people of other nationalities. He said that the suffering from terrorism falls on both Moslems and Christians, and that the terrorists should not be described as Moslems or Christians.

He said he will relate his findings to the US mass media after his return.
