A meeting for discussing the issue of the Kuwaiti captives in Iraq
Kuwait-Iraq, Politics, 3/13/1998

The committee authorized to deal with the issue of Kuwaitis held captive and missing since the 1990 Iraqi invasion of Kuwait will hold a meeting on March 18.

An official from the International Committee of the Red Cross in Baghdad said that they will hold a meeting between representatives from Iraq, Kuwait, the Red Cross, Saudi Arabia, the U.S., Britain and France in the southern Iraqi city of Om Kass.

The Iraqi newspaper El-Moswer El-Arabia said that the meeting will pursue the pending issues between Iraq and Kuwait, especially the issue of those citizens missing on both sides of the conflict.

Baghdad admitted that its army took captives with it, then said that it had no trace of these captives.

Settling the issue of the Kuwaiti captives, as dictated by resolution 686 of the UN Security Council, is one of the main conditions for lifting the sanctions imposed upon Iraq since 1990.
