Syrian parliament speaker receives Iraqi delegation

Speaker of the Syrian People's Assembly Abdul Qader Qaddoura on Wednesday received a delegation from the Iraqi National Assembly led by chairman of the public services committee, Abdullah Haithi.
Talks dealt with the sufferings of the Iraqi people and the sanctions imposed on Iraq and the recent accord signed with the UN concerning inspection committees. The Iraqi official praised Syria's national position toward issues affecting the Arab states.
Haithi talked about the sufferings of the people of Iraq resulting from UN sanctions and the US position towards Iraq. He accused the US of attempting to strike Iraq militarily, despite Iraq's commitment to abide by UN resolutions.
For his part, Qaddoura stressed Syria's committment to preserving the unity of Iraq's people and Iraq's territorial integrity, noting that Syria is against any military strike against Iraq.
Qaddoura noted Syria's support for the accord signed between the UN and Iraq, adding that all sides' commitment to UN resolutions would help lift the suffering of the Iraqi people.
