Kuwaiti not ready to normalize relations with Iraq
Kuwait, Politics, 3/11/1998

Kuwaiti Deputy the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabbah El-Ahmed El-Sabbah expressed astonishment towards the Iraqi desire to normalize relations with Kuwait, saying it is too early for such a raproachment.

El-Sabbah said Kuwait is not thinking of normalization with Iraq unless President Sadam Hussien fulfills Kuwaiti demands by implementing three conditions: to make a formal apology acknowledging Iraq's fault for attacking and occupying Kuwait, to free Kuwaiti prisoners in Iraqi jails, and to carry out UN Security Council resolutions.

El-Sabbah said Kuwait is not currently concerned with the return of normal relations with Iraq.

This comes on the heels of Kuwaiti parliamentary officials indicating their willingness to participate in two conferences which include countries that had unfavorable positions toward Kuwait prior to and during the war with Iraq.
