Kuwaiti parliament ends break with pro-Iraq countries
Kuwait, Politics, 3/11/1998
For the first time since the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and the subsequent Gulf War, Kuwaiti parliamentary officials will participate in two conferences which include countries that had unfavorable positions toward Kuwait prior to and during the war with Iraq.
The Kuwaiti parliamentary delegates will participate in one conference to be held in Yemen in March and another in Jordan in April. By doing so, the Kuwaiti parliament will end its break with parliamentary activties hosted by anti-Kuwait countries during the 1990 Iraq-Kuwait crisis.
M.P. Mubarak Al-Kherang said the branch executive committee decided to form a delegation to participate in the 31st session of the council of the Arab Parliamentary Union, to be held in Sanaa between March 15 - 18.
He added that the committee agreed to send a delegation to Arab - African parliamentary meetings for population and development, be held in the Jordanian capital on April 1 - 2.
The state council's boycott of all the parliamentary meetings hosted by countries like Jordan, Sudan and Yemen was due to the position their governments and parliaments held during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.
