Jordan releases 29 detainees from Maan
Jordan, Judicial, 3/11/1998
The Jordanian authorities on Monday released some 29 persons out of 47 who were arrested following confrontations on February 20 and 21 in Maan between Jordanian police and demonstrators backing Iraq.
The attorney general at the state security council, Mahmoud Obeidat, said that the military court decided to free those who proved they were not involved in the riots, which resulted in the death of one person, and the wounding of 10 others including police members.
He said the decision was taken after King Hussein called for "urgent investigation measures," the Lebanese al-Nahar reported.
