Minister Murr stresses inseparability of Syrian-Lebanese tracks
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 3/11/1998

Lebanese Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Michel Murr said the Lebanese want to maintain the unity of the Syrian and Lebanese tracks regarding talks with Israel.

"The inseparability of Syrian and Lebanese tracks in peace talks has fortified UN resolution 425," Murr stated in a speech delivered at a graduation ceremony for internal security and state security forces.

The Lebanese minister said that U.N. resolution 425 is clear and calls for full and unconditional Israeli withdrawal from south Lebanon and the western Bekaa, rather than as Israel interprets it.

He warned against Israel's interpretation of resolution 425, noting that such an Israeli interpretation means a return to May 17 agreement imposed by Israel on Lebanon, adding that the Israeli proposal is intended to erode national unity and resistance in Lebanon and separate the Syrian and Lebanese peace tracks.
