Kuwaiti minister of information may get no-confidence vote
Kuwait, Politics, 3/10/1998
Saud Nasir Al-Sabah, the Kuwaiti minister of information, will be questioned today, while opposition deputies stated that they have gathered enough votes to call a no-confidence vote against him.
Problems between conservative deputies and the ministry began when the Ministry of Information allowed in last November the sale of 167 books to which censors had objected for content that deals improperly with religion and ethics.
To the deputies - that the decision - was an error out of good intention.
Adjustments were made on the censorship region to guarantee that such an error would not be repeated, but some of the deputies consider the minister politically responsible for what happened.
Kuwaiti deputies told ArabicNews.com that they intend to ask for a no-confidence vote against the information minister and say they have guaranteed enough votes in the parliament for that measure.
Government ministers, some of whom participate in the parliament, do not vote during no-confidence votes.
