Lebanon, Culture, 3/10/1998
Canadian singer Paul Anka gave an audience of some 4,000 people a stunning performance at Beirut Hall Saturday.
The concert, which had been sold out, was attended by First Lady Mona Hrawi and other well-known figures. Anka, who is of Lebanese origin, sang songs which helped launch his career back in the 1970s such as My Way and Diana.
Anka, who has recorded more than 700 songs, had arrived here Thursday. He said he was very excited about his visit to Lebanon, which had always been "my mother's dream."
President Elias Hrawi on Saturday decorated Anka, 55, with the Order of the Cedars medal.
