King Hussein meets Israeli Industry and Trade Minister
Jordan-Israel, Economics, 3/10/1998

Jordan's King Hussein met with Israeli Industry and Trade Minister Natan Sharansky, who visited Jordan yesterday.

Talks at the meeting addressed the implementation of articles in the Israeli-Jordanian peace treaty relating to trade cooperation between the two states. In his earlier talks with Sharansky, Jordan's Crown Prince stressed the importance of reactivating trilateral trade exchange among Jordan, Israel and Palestine.

The peace process in the Middle East and means of reviving it were also discussed in the negotiations.

Meanwhile, Jordan and Israel signed an agreement dealing with the Industrial Zone in the city of Irbid whose duty free products are exported to the US.

In the course of their joint committee, the two neighboring states also signed a memorandum to be submitted to the EU requesting information on laws governing the origin of products to enter European markets free of custom duties.

"The two countries agreed to form a joint committee to look into laws required by the EU to govern the flow of Jordanian products into Europe," Minister of Industry and Trade Hani al-Mulki told reporters after the meeting with Israeli officials yesterday.
