Resistance wound Israeli soldier in south Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 3/9/1998

An Israeli soldier was lightly injured Sunday in an attack by Hizbullah forces on an outpost inside Israel's "security zone" in south Lebanon, security sources said.

Hizbullah claimed responsibility for the early morning attack, saying its fighters fired mortars and rocket-propelled grenades at the Israeli outpost in Tallousa.

Israel responded with an artillery barrage on villages north of the enclave and shelled suspected Hizbullah strongholds.

An Israeli army spokesman in Jerusalem said two Lebanese fighters were killed in clashes with Israeli troops over the weekend. But Hizbullah denied that any of its fighters had been killed on Saturday or Sunday.

The Lebanese resistance forces also attacked a joint position for Lahd militia and Israeli forces at al-Qahah Markaba hill and destroyed its fortifications. The Lebanese resistance attacked with mortars positions manned by Israeli troops and Lahd militias on Tallet Zoya in the occupied strip of south Lebanon. Earlier on Saturday night the Lebanese resistance attacked an Israeli on-foot patrol between Hula and Sharon positions in the occupied part of south Lebanon.

On Saturday Israeli occupation forces shelled a number of towns adjacent to the occupied border strip, particularly Hadatha, Eita al-Jabal, Barachit, Tebnin, Jabal al-Zatar, Sujoud and al-Raihan woods.

In another development, Amnesty International has reported that 21 Lebanese citizens were arrested by Israeli forces between 1986-1994, transported to Israel and are kept under administrative detention, al-Quds Arabi Press reported from the occupied territories.

al-Quds press quoted the Israeli daily Maariv as saying that some detainees appeared before military courts and are still in jail even after the expiration of their sentences.

Meanwhile, Lebanon has filed three complaints with an international monitoring committee over Israel's violation of a 1996 cease-fire agreement. Israel also lodged a complaint with the committee, which will meet Wednesday in south Lebanon.
