German minister of transport to visit Saudi Arabia

The German minister of transport, Mathias Wissmann, is to visit Saudi Arabia this week to discuss a project to expand Saudi railways.

The discussions will focus on the means of transportation in the kingdom, especially trains. The delegation accompanying the minister is expected to present information about high-speed German trains and their potential use for transporting people and goods throughout Saudi Arabia.

The minister will inform Saudi officials about the capabilities of the magnetically levitated trains, which are capable of very high speeds.

The two sides will discussing methods of strengthening German - Saudi cooperation in developing the infrastructure in the mining regions and obstacles to using Saudi natural resources.

This three-day visit is expected to lead to widened cooperation between the two counties.
