Humanities research center opened in Jbeil

Lebanon and UNESCO on Wednesday signed an agreement to establish an international center for human sciences in Jbeil, Lebanon. The agreement was cosigned by Lebanese Foreign Minister Fares Boueiz and UNESCO's director general Frederico Mayor.
In a joint press conference following the signing ceremony, Boueiz said the agreement is a sign of Lebanon's cultural heritage and the key role as a meeting place for western and eastern civilizations. He said a draft agreement has been initialed for establishing the center since 1993 but was never endorsed before because of the Lebanese civil war.
