Three Israeli raids against south Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 3/6/1998

Israeli helicopters on Thursday launched three raids which targeted towns in the central sector of south Lebanon. Lebanese security sources said the Israeli helicopters shelled the area with air-surface missiles and machine gun fire.

A few hours later the Israeli helicopters again shelled the area intensively, but were confronted by anti-aircraft fire.

Meanwhile, Israeli occupation forces on Thursday morning bombarded central sector towns with heavy artillery. Lebanese security sources said the bombardment covered the towns of Kafra, Yater and Haris and hills and heights of al-Tuffah district.

The sources said the Israeli heavy artillery at 4:30 p.m. pounded Safi mount, al-Jabal, al-Rafi, Sujoud and al-Raihan woods, Aqmata farm, al-Salouqi valley and al-Litani river bed. The bombardment was accompanied by heavy artillery shelling.

Israeli warplanes also flew at low altitudes over al-Nabatieh and al-Tuffah district areas. Meanwhile, the Lebanese national resistance on Thursday continued attacks against Israeli forces in the occupied part of south Lebanon.

In a statement, the resistance said one of its groups attacked an Israeli occupation position in Sujoud with machine guns and missiles, scoring direct hits.
