Saad Shazeli: U.S. military buildup to strike Iran and Syria next

Lieutenant General Saad El-Din El-Shazeli the ex-Egyptian chief of staff in October war 1973, said that the U.S. goal in striking Iraq in 1991 was not only the liberation of Kuwait, but the comprehensive destruction of the Iraqi military machine.

At that time the U.S. did not want to destroy Iraq completely because this would have damaged the regional balance leading Iran to be the winner at last, Shazeli said.

Shazeli said he believes that the U.S.'s ambitions and targets encompass more than striking Iraq, and says it will attack other countries in the region, beginning with Iran and Syria, after dealing with Iraq.
