Israelis learn Arabic in Gaza
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 3/4/1998
A number of Israeli academics and intellectuals are currently in Gaza where they attend a special condensed course in Arabic. The course, Palestinian sources said, is part of a cooperation project between Palestine and Israeli groups opposed to the policy of the Israeli government.
Amir Tadmur, a spokesman of the 15-member group who receive their studies at the Jerusalem International Hotel in Gaza, said the group's arrival in Gaza was delayed because of obstacles laid forward by the Israeli authorities.
Tadmur, a peace activist and secretary of the Palestinian-Israeli Cooperation Organization, said holding such courses "is essential for promoting peace and understanding between the two sides, despite the approach of the Israeli government."
