Sheikh Zayed, King Hussein call for implementation of Iraq agreement
Regional-United Arab Emirates, Politics, 3/4/1998

UAE president Sheikh Zayed bin-Sultan al-Nahyan and King Hussein of Jordan called for full implementation of the UN - Iraq deal concerning the weapons inspections in Iraq.

In the course of their meeting in Abu Dhabi, Jordan's King and President of UAE said that they were satisfied with the agreement which is expected to save the region from the consequences of military action against Iraq.

King Hussein flew to the UAE yesterday afternoon, accompanied by Prime Minister Abdul-Salam al-Majali and other senior officials. The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and the Middle East peace process.

"Peace negotiations should be revived, in main, on the Israeli-Palestinian track," they agreed. They also cited a need for commitment to accords previously agreed upon by Israelis and Palestinians.

They reaffirmed the legitimate rights of Palestinians to establish their own independent state on their soil within a peace settlement.
