Israeli asks France to work out a deal on Lebanon, Syria
Israel has asked the US and many European countries to help draft an initiative that would lead to Israel's unilateral withdrawal from occupied south Lebanon. Israeli diplomatic missions and embassies in a number of European capitals were instructed to seek the help of their host countries.

During the meeting of Arab Labor Union in Luxor, Fadel Gharib, the head of Iraq's labor union, praised Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's efforts to solve the crisis peacefully and avoid a military strike. Gharib called for Arab solidarity, economic integration, coordination of positions between Arab countries, and establishment of an Arab market. Go

An Egyptian plane carrying 30 tons of medicines for the children of Iraq arrived in Baghdad on Sunday. In Cairo, Seifeddine Imam told reporters that the delegation purchased the medical aid at a cost of US $350,000 with donations offered by Egyptian businessmen, medical companies and citizens. Go

Bahraini defense Minister Sheikh Khaleifa Bin Ahmad al-Khaleifa on Sunday met with the British Chief of Staff and members of his accompanying delegation. Saudi Arabia's defense minister Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz on Sunday received a communique from his Russian counterpart, delivered by the Russian ambassador to Saudi Arabia. No information was disclosed on the content of the message. Go

Qatar's ruler, Sheikh Hamad Bin Khaleifa al-Thani on Sunday phoned Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi to congratulate him on the decision of the International Court of Justice to decide on the Lockerbie crisis.The Qatari News Agency said Sheikh Hamad hoped the embargo imposed on the people of Libya will be lifted. President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt on Sunday received a communique from Saudi Arabia's King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz relating to Arab issues, delivered by Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal during his meeting with Mubarak. Go

Jordan celebrated the 42nd anniversary of Arabization of the commander of the Jordanian armed forces. In 1956 King Hussein of Jordan relieved British General Glob Pasha from his post as army commander and appointed a Jordanian officer to lead the army. Go
