Lebanese resistance fights back against Israeli troops
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 3/2/1998

Israeli occupation forces on Sunday shelled the hills and heights of al-Tuffah district adjacent to the occupied sector of south Lebanon.

Lebanese security sources said the Israeli artillery in al-Zaffata position shelled Arabsalim, Jabaa and Jarjaou' districts, Safi mountain, the woods of Sujoud al-Raihan, al-Rafai mountain, Litani river bed, al-Salouqi valley and the farm of Aqmata. The shelling was accompanied by machine-gun fire against the roads linking al-Tuffah district to the occupied sector of south Lebanon.

Israeli warplanes carried out a number of mock raids over al-Nabatieh and al-Tuffah district areas, firing a number of flares. Earlier, Israeli naval forces seized a commercial vessel opposite Tyre shore coming from Germany. News reports from south Lebanon said Israeli naval forces inspected the vessel for an hour before allowing it to head to Tyre port.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese resistance on Sunday attacked two Israeli occupation positions in Klab Well in south Lebanon. In a statement the resistance said that one of its groups ambushed an Israeli armored force along Klab Well road, destroying an Israeli military truck. Another resistance group rocketed and machine-gunned the other Israeli position, scoring direct hits, the resistance statement said.

Meanwhile, Israeli chief of staff General Amnon Shahak toured south Lebanon, inspecting a position in which three Israeli soldiers were killed as a result of a Lebanese resistance operation last weekend. On Saturday, Israeli warplanes attacked positions in south Lebanon, just hours after clashes between the two sides left four Israeli soldiers wounded and at least one Lahd's militia member dead.

Two Israeli fighter-bombers fired missiles at targets near Lweizeh, a village facing an Israeli-occupied zone in south Lebanon, Lebanese security officials said.

Later in the day, Lebanese resistance men said in a statement released on Saturday that one of their fighters died during the confrontation on February 24th with Israeli soldiers at Jabal Abu Rekab position in the occupied border strip. The statement said that Hassan Hani Obeid, 22, joined the resistance front in 1994 and took part in many military operations.
