Jordan postpones meetings with Israel
Jordan-Israel, Politics, 2/27/1998

Jordan postponed the meetings of the Jordanian - Israeli joint committee until next week.

This meeting, under the leadership Minister of Commerce and Industry Hani El-Malki and his Israeli counterpart, Natan Sharansky was to take place in Amman last Monday.

A Jordanian source said the meetings were postponed due to unresolved points between the two parties regarding the preliminary steps for signing an agreement that will arrange commercial relations between the states for the current year.

The source said the points still under discussion include an increase in goods exempted from customs duties and an increase in the volume of commercial exchange between Jordan and Israel.

The number of goods exported by Jordan to Palestinian self-rule regions is subject to Israeli approval, according to the provisions of the Paris agreement signed between the Palestinian authority and Israel in April, 1994.
