Palestine electricity station to open next month
Palestine, Economics, 2/26/1998
The Palestinian government will open next month a 110 MW electric station, the first in Palestine, at a cost of $200 million to serve the Gaza Strip.
A member of the Palestinian Company for Electricity's board of directors, Samir Al-Shawa, said the cost of the first phase of the project is about $100 million. The electricity will be generated by unique American generators. The station's basic design was developed by US experts.
The project will give the company a chance to control electricity prices, which he said will lead to a cost reduction for consumers.
Al-Shawa said that the energy authority, a government organization, owns 10% of the company's shares while the rest of its shares are owned by the private sector.
