Turkish Foreign Minister in Jordan today
Jordan-Turkey, Politics, 2/26/1998

Turkish Foreign Minister Ismail Cem is expected in Jordan today for a one-day official visit.

Cem is to discuss bilateral relations between Jordan and his country with Jordan's King Hussein, Prime Minister Abdul-Salam al-Majali and Foreign Minister Jawad al-Annani. The Turkish minister is also to discuss current events taking place in the Middle East, particularly the Iraqi-UN agreement with senior Jordanian officials.

"Turkish Foreign Minister Ismail Cem is due to meet King Hussein, Prime Minister Dr. Abdul-Salam al-Majali and other Jordanian officials to discuss bilateral concerns," an official at the Turkish embassy in Amman told reporters.

Cem is to leave Jordan Thursday evening.

Turkish-Jordanian relations have improved recently. Jordan took part as a monitor in joint Turkish-Israeli and US naval maneuvers late last year in the Mediterranean.
