Egyptian report criticize physicians who work in prisons
Egypt, Medicine, 2/25/1998

The human rights center for supporting prisoners in Egypt criticized physicians working in Egyptian prisons and called for intensifying the supervision of those physicians when dealing with prisoners and detainees.

The center issued a report in which it referred to physicians' violations while treating patients inside prisons, relying on the prisoners' testimonies.

The report stated that these violations are violations of the prisoners' essential rights, including their right to live and their physical safety, adding that endangering these rights contradicts international charters and Egyptian legislation.

The report said some of these violations, include a lack of real examinations of the patients and punishing them by depriving them of medicines and neglecting their follow-up treatments.
