Jordan's Crown Prince calls for focus on Mid East problems

Crown Prince Hassan of Jordan called on the international community to focus its attention back on many issues facing the Middle East now that the Iraqi crisis has been defused.

The prince attended a meeting held at the British ambassador's residence in Amman yesterday afternoon. He discussed Jordan's relations with the EU and said that more emphasis should now be put on the stalled Palestinian - Israeli peace talks.

"I think that there was a sense of relief," Hassan told reporters. "Opportunity had not been missed and the secretary-general performed in the manner in which he has received the justifiable approval and support of the international community," Hassan said about the Iraqi situation.

Jordan's Crown Prince added, "The secretary-general came with a mandate on behalf of the Security Council." "We hope that the days ahead after the agreements have been read and absorbed will be days in which the international community will continue in a comprehensive manner to look at all the region's problems," he said.
