Jordan welcomes Iraq-UN deal
Jordan, Politics, 2/25/1998

Jordan's King Hussein welcomed the deal signed between the Iraqi government and the UN Security Council as the peaceful solution to the crisis that charged the region most.

"Jordan is looking forward to seeing an end to the plight of Iraqi people, brought about by a series of crises and the economic sanctions," imposed on Iraq after Iraq's forces invaded Kuwait on Aug. 2, 1990, the King said in an interview with both Jordan TV and Orbit TV.

"The background of the subject was clear from the stand of UN secretary-general," he said. "He refused to travel to Baghdad unless he got the five UN Security Council permanent members' agreement authorizing him to move within a specified framework," King Hussein added. "Therefore, I hope that we have passed the crisis," he said.
