Iraq poses no threat to neighbors: UAE
United Arab Emirates-Iraq, Politics, 2/24/1998
In a statement he made after meeting Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, President Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan al-Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates said that directing a strike against Iraq is bad and loathsome and would inflict endless problems and damage relations between the West and the Arabs and Muslims.
He called upon the international community to exert all diplomatic efforts to avoid military confrontation in the Iraqi crisis.
He called upon the US to avoid resorting to the logic of power, because humanity expects the US as a major state to shoulder its responsibility towards the world and back right and justice. He also called for uniting Arab ranks, especially amid such crucial conditions in order to challenge current developments.
Sheikh Zayed on Sunday reiterated his refusal of any US strike against Iraq, noting that Iraq did not pose a threat against its neighbors.
