A collective funeral for more Iraqi children
Iraq, Culture, 2/24/1998

Iraq on Saturday held a collective funeral for 63 children, who all died as a result of UN sanctions which deprived them of medicine and nutrition. Angry participants chanted slogans condemning the US.

The the chairman of the Iraqi child care society, Sultan al-Shawi, delivered a message from families of the victimized children, saying that the death of their children is a mass annihilation crime committed by the US administration against the people of Iraq and that the sanctions had caused the death of one million Iraqi children.

The United Nations Security Council last week approved a new oil-for-deal that nearly double the amount of oil Iraq can to sell to buy food and medicine, among other necessities. However, many experts do not see that the large number of malnutrition cases, that approaches 30% of the children, to change anytime soon.
