Moussa: US will approve agreement
Iraq, International, 2/23/1998
Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa said on Monday that he expects the United States to approve the agreement reached between UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and Iraq concerning the current crisis over weapons inspections.
After meeting with his Greek counterpart, Theodhoros Pangalos, Moussa told reporters, "I believe that the U.S. as an official country will have to approve of the agreement," adding, "We are very happy with this agreement" between the Iraqi government and the UN, expressing optimism that with the approval of the agreement, there will be no outstanding problems.
UN's Secretary-General Kofi Annan and Iraq's Tareq Aziz, the deputy Iraqi prime minister, signed an agreement in Baghdad early Monday concerning the work of the international weapons inspectors in Iraq.
