$140 million in environment aid to Aqaba Gulf
Egypt, Science, 2/21/1998
Egypt's minister of state for environmental affairs, Dr. Nadia Makram Ebeid, said the World Bank in cooperation with the EU will finance an environmental plan of action for the Egyptian part of Aqaba Gulf with estimated funds of $140 million.
She added that the plan of action will be reviewed in a workshop tomorrow in Sharm El-Sheikh.
She said the plan of action tackles most of the environmental problems this region faces, foremost among which are water and soil pollution, noise and destruction of coral reefs as well as all environmental problems linked to sewage and human waste.
Dr. Ebeid said that planning for economic and tourist development within the framework of a clear and healthy environment is the basic aim of plan.
