Jordan's Crown Prince confirms support for Annan's efforts
Jordan, Politics, 2/19/1998

Jordan's Crown Prince Hassan confirmed that Jordan fully supported the efforts to be made by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan during his mission to Iraq, "I hope that he will succeed in containing the crisis and avoiding for the Iraqi people and the whole the region the disastrous consequences of a military strike."

Following his meeting with British Foreign Minister Robin Cook, Hassan told reporters that Jordan continues its efforts to avoid a military strike. Crown Prince Hassan was quoted as saying that the strike would be escalatory and powerful," if the efforts to find a peaceful solution might be foiled.

"It is a serious attitude," he stated. "The region can not afford continuous crisis," he added.

Prince Hassan and Cook also discussed the Middle East peace process, reaffirming that it is necessary to solve the obstacles that face the process and advance toward peace.
