Yemeni president's initiative paves way for opposition participation

The assistant secretary general of the General Public Conference, El-Yemeni El-Said Yehia El-Metwakel, said the call of Yemeni President Ali Abdallah Saleh to close past cases aims at paving the way for opposition parties to participate in political spheres and national issues, regardless of the their political position.

El-Metwakel stated that his party examined the Yemeni president's initiative, forming committees for discussing with the Yemeni Association for Reform, the Socialist party, other parties and political organizations.

He also said that these committees are assuming the authority to form the conception, and basis that express the aim of the initiative, denying that the opposition parties put conditions for participating in the discussion.
