Egyptian writers get creative in fighting on behalf Iraqis
Egypt, Politics, 2/19/1998

The Egyptian Writers Union issued a statement affirming and echoing its previous statements that UN inspections for and dismantling of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction are pretexts to destroy Iraq, weaken the Arab world, and control its natural resources -- oil in particular.

The communique called on several unions, writers unions in the Arab world, cultural groups and those who are against a strike on Iraq to arrange protest marches, and boycott U.S. and British goods, as well as to send messages of protest to the U.N. and its agencies and to parliaments.

Meanwhile the writers union today has arranged a protest to the "U.S. aggression" against the Iraqi people at the union's headquarters.
