Iran states opposition to military action against Iraq

Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi on Monday discussed with Kuwait's minister of planning Ahmad al-Mismi' developments concerning the Iraqi crisis.

Kharazi called for further intensification of diplomatic efforts to settle the crisis between Iraq and the US by peaceful means, noting Iran's opposition to the use force. He warned against the consequences of a US military strike on Iraq in increasing tension in the region and called upon Iraq to implement UN Security Council resolutions.

Kharazi also made telephone calls to his Iraqi and Jordanian counterparts on developments in the Iraqi - US crisis. The Iraqi and Jordanian ministers said they hope UN Secretary -General Kofi Annan will visit Iraq with UN consent and, together with Iraqi officials, to reach a diplomatic solution to the crisis and implementation of UN resolutions concerning Iraq.
