Algeria, Sudan deny stocking of Iraqi nuclear weapons
Algeria-Sudan, Military, 2/17/1998
Algerian ambassador to Washington Ramadan al-Amamera has denied news reports that Iraq had transferred nuclear material to Algeria.
In a statement to the AFP on Monday, the Algerian ambassador described information published by the US magazine US News and World Report as groundless. "We totally refuse these allegations," he said.
In a similar statement Sudan also on Monday denied such news. However, the US magazine on Saturday quoted a report by the US congress alleging that Iraq has stored weapons of mass destruction in Sudan and transferred expertise and equipment to Libya and Algeria to produce nuclear and biological weapons.
