Jordan Cabinet reshuffle expected
Jordan, Politics, 2/17/1998
ArabicNews.com has been informed that there will be a cabinet reshuffle in Jordan. The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the reshuffle is expected within the coming 24 hours.
The names of both ministers of Information and of Interior will be included on the expected list, the source said.
Analysts believe that this step is aimed at satisfying opposition members of the Lower House. The opposition criticized the minister of information because he allowed the Third Festival of Arabic Songs to be broadcast live on Jordanian television. They said the festival was not in step with Jordanian morals.
The minister of interior had banned demonstrations and arrested 61 demonstrators, marching in support of Iraq, on Friday. He said they violated the ban. The detainees were later freed.
