Crown Prince Hassan: Pluralism must be promoted in Iraq
Jordan, Politics, 2/17/1998
"Threatening to use force should be used as a stick you wave, and not necessarily to strike the Iraqis," Crown Prince Hassan of Jordan said in an interview with Newsweek magazine.
"Arabs feel submissiveness and wrath," he stated. "They have an expression of double-standard measures in regard with implementing of the UN resolutions," he said.
Prince Hassan said he hoped a center to solve conflicts in the region could be established. "We believe in people's policy and not petroleum policy," he said, hinting at the policy of the US.
The expected military strike against Iraq, "will directly affet whole the region," he stated. "Investments and tourism will clearly be affected," he said.
Regarding the "end of the game with Iraq" Crown Prince Hassan was quoted as saying that, "There should be provisional regulations, social contract among Kurds, Sunnite Arabs and Shiite Arabs."
"Pluralism must be promoted there," he added.
