King Hussein reviews peace process with Arafat
Jordan-Palestine, Politics, 2/16/1998

Jordan's King Hussein met with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat in Amman yesterday evening to discuss joint issues and bilateral relations between their countries. They reviewed the latest developments in the peace process, the difficulties it faced and the current crisis the region faced as well.

King Hussein was informed by Palestinian President Yasser Arafat about the latest developments in peace negotiations with Israel, the proposals to restart those negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian government and the Israeli withdrawal from Palestinian territories as per agreements signed between both sides.

They also discussed the expected US proposals to rescue the peace process between Israel and Palestine and to restart the suspended talks between them. The two leaders reaffirmed that it is necessary for all sides to adhere to the signed agreements so that they can start final status negotiations.

Both sides reviewed the Iraqi governmental crisis with the UN and all the efforts to contain it using diplomatic methods.

King Hussein and President Arafat confirmed that it is important to make the utmost efforts to reach a resolution on Iraq via diplomatic means to avoid a military strike and its destructive consequences.

Crown Prince Hassan and other Jordanian and Palestinian senior officials attended the meeting.
