Security cooperation between Morocco and Italy

Italy and Morocco are currently in discussions on security cooperation between them. The Italian side is headed by Italian Interior Minister Giorgio Napolitano, who is currently visiting Rabat, while the Moroccan side is headed by Moroccan Minister of Interior Idris al-Basri.
The discussions cover security issues affecting Mediterranean countries' interests, which include combating illegal immigration, fighting crime, confronting smuggling, and other issues such as methods of activating the signed agreements between Morocco and Italy within this frame.
A number of European officials paid visits to Morocco to obtain Moroccan guarantees to limit the number of African emigrants who cross from the occupied cities of Sebta and Melila into Spain then into Europe.
