King Hussein discusses Iraqi crisis with Egyptian, Syrian and Turkish presidents
Regional-Iraq, International, 2/14/1998

King Hussein of Jordan telephoned both Egyptian President Mohammed Hosni Mubarak and Syrian president Hafez al-Assad. Jordan's king discussed the latest developments concerning the Iraqi governmental crisis with the UN Security Council and the dangerous consequences if Iraq is attacked.

King Hussein of Jordan said he is making his utmost effort to reach a diplomatic solution to the crisis and to avoid more suffering for the Iraqi people.

In addition, President Sulayman Demirel of Turkey telephoned King Hussein. The two leaders reviewed the Iraqi governmental crisis with the UN and the methods to be considered to resolve the crisis by peaceful means.

The four leaders agreed that Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, "should comply fully and literally," with the UN Security Council resolutions as soon as possible to avoid more escalation in the situation, which could result in more disasters not only for Iraq but for the whole region and the world.
