Kidnapping a Dutch tourists from Yemen
Yemen, Local, 2/14/1998
A Yemeni official said it was the al-Tuheiman clan, affiliated to the Gaham tribe, which kidnapped a Dutch tourist from one of the Yemeni capital Sanaa' s suburbs on Tuesday. Tribesmen detained the man in the tribe's home, 200 km east of Sanaa.
The Dutch tourist, 60, was kidnapped while walking in a suburban Sanaa street when a group of armed tribesmen attacked him.
Saleh bin Soda (the tribe's chief) is accused in more than one case, including for giving orders to kidnap foreign tourists. The kidnappers want to use the hostage as leverage to win the release of three of their tribesmen.
The Yemeni government is exerting efforts to release the kidnapped man.
