Garaudy who questions the Holocaust, in Cairo

French Islamic intellectual Roger Garaudy arrived in Cairo last night to participate in a seminar at the Cairo International Book Fair.
Upon his arrival, he was received by the head of the General Book Authority, Dr. Samir Sarhan. Earlier the press union issued statements condemning the accusations against Garaudy and calling on writers and intellectuals to begin a support campaign for Garaudy.
Political factions and figures organized a march to the French embassy in Cairo to hand a protest message to the French ambassador, who refused to receive it and considered it interference in his country's affairs.
Garaudy is on trial in France for publishing a book which questions the validity of the traditional accounts of the Holocaust and the number of Jews that died in it.
